Discipline, matter, light
My work comes from trying to make visible what I feel and cannot be measured.
I use seventeenth-century painting techniques because the method is ancient and slow, made of glazes laid one over another, and of waiting. It lets me not only express myself but understand every nuance, every imprecision, every aspect of the subject’s form that the light shows me as it falls on skin, eyes, veins… For me light does not brighten shadows: it creates them. There is no darkness, only a different intensity of light.
Discipline, matter, light: on these foundations I build images that become tools for exploring the unconscious and its deepest dynamics.
I chose this ancient language to speak about what has no time, and what forces you to stop and look.
Through my self-portraits I cry out my need to show my personality, my spirituality, my being a unique, unrepeatable individual — as we all are, if only we let out the light we carry inside.
